Gwendolyn Snowdon is of Irish, English and dutch descent through her parents and grandparents.
Often people of mixed descent have trouble deciding where they belong exactly and it is this dilemma which gave birth to her first solo cd named Three Strand Braid. Seeking to unite her different musical heritages she recorded an album with features an equal amount of songs -both contemporary and traditional- from Ireland, England and The Netherlands.
Starting off her musical career in the (now defunct) Dutch Lemmings and later in Celtic-Oriental Folkband Finvarra she now has a solo project that started off as an ‘on the side thing’, bit has taken a far more central part in her life.
While being quite at home on the Irish Bouzouki, Indian Harmonium and guitar, Gwen’s main instrument is her voice; it was her love of singing that first lured her into the world of folk music. Starting off as a huge Tori Amos and Kate Bush fan, Gwen now lists artist and bands like Lais, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Loreena McKennitt, Nolwenn Leroy, Jethro Tull, Sandy Denny, Cara Dillon and Frankie Armstrong as her influences.
Baloney Celtic Music is een groep van vijf enthousiaste muzikanten, met een voorliefde voor muziek, die op de Ierse en Schotse muziektraditie is gebaseerd. Elk lid van de groep, levert zijn of haar eigen persoonlijke bijdrage aan de zang en begeleiding, alsmede het spel op een melodie-instrument.
Baloney Celtic Music speelt niet alleen eigen arrangementen van de bovenste plank, die op de traditionele muziek zijn gebaseerd, maar ook zelf geschreven nummers. De optredens worden gekenmerkt door veel afwisseling. De traditionele liedjes, songs en ballads die worden gebracht handelen over een tal van onderwerpen, liefde, de zee, nostalgie en heimwee. Ze worden afgewisseld met opzwepende jigs, reels en andere instrumentals, waarbij het publiek niet stil kan blijven zitten.
Mogelijk komt er nog een act bij.
